Living in Safety

How many times have you tried to make a phone call or send a text message only to learn that your smart phone’s service won’t work in certain areas such as large buildings, subways, or concrete tunnels?

While in most cases this is only a minor inconvenience, what if that call or message was for the purpose of contacting first responders due to an emergency? In other words, for a life or death situation.

With the proper communication system – such as BDA amplifiers – in place, you may not have to worry anymore about calls or messages getting stuck in cyberspace, unable to reach their recipient.

BDA Systems, which are also known as Bi-Directional Amplifier Systems, are a type of signal boosting solution that is designed for enhancing dead zones in structures where emergency responders need to communicate via radio frequency signals.

Firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency responders typically use portable radios (that are referred to as land mobile radios) as a critical tool for communication during fires and other serious emergencies. Unfortunately, though, these radios can sometimes lose their communication radio signals in metal or concrete structures, as well as in various other “dead zones” like stairwells.

But with a BDA system, two-way radio signals can be enhanced and distributed, even in the most challenging of environments – which is a big part of the reason why bi-directional amplification will be required in all buildings in the state of Florida by the year 2022. BDA systems can also be used for bringing buildings and other facilities into compliance with the Emergency Responder Radio Coverage, or ERRC, code.
